Counting On Game

In math, we are working on the adding strategy of counting on.  We are putting the biggest number in our heads and counting on the other addend to find the total.  On Friday, we played the number quilt game to practice this strategy.  It was a huge hit!

Here's Benjamin counting on.

David found a switch partner of 3+4 and 4+3.

The students loved playing the number quilt game with the red cards.  After they found all the totals they flipped the cards over to check their answers.  They were excited and cheered as they answered the problems right.  I have a lot of great mathematicians this year!
